Essential Oil of Tea Tree is the product of distillation of the leaves of Melaleuca alternifolia - a tree native to Australia.
Tea Tree oil has many valuable properties, but the facts can be difficult to uncover. The reason for this is that it is a naturally occurring mixture so it cannot be legally patented by pharmaceutical companies - and therefore they do not encourage its use. They will certainly never pay to have it tested and licensed as a medicine. However good it is...

Also, suppliers of Tea Tree Oil, who are in the best position to know the facts, are forbidden by law from giving any information about therapeutic properties that might be seen as promoting the sale of their product. These legal restrictions apply to all of the Essential Oils used in Aromatherapy.
For more information on this ridiculous situation read Tea Tree And The Law. It's a rather long read, but if you want to understand how we are limiting ourselves to only ever using synthetic chemicals as medicines, then it is important reading...

This web site has been set up as an independent source of information. We are not offering Tea Tree Oil (or any other Essential Oils) for sale, nor even recommending suppliers - so we are free to express any opinions that we want. That is very important to stress, as it frees us from the restrictions imposed by the authorities who regulate who can say what about therapeutic properties.

We have attempted to track down any worthwhile scientific research that has been reported on Essential Oils - and particularly on Tea Tree Oil and related Aromatherapy Products. An overview can be found by clicking Tea Tree Oil Research.

Essential Oil blends containing Tea Tree oil are widely recognised to be very effective at treating many conditions of the feet. A range of such products are now commercially available to Podiatrists and Chiropodists. Click Footcare With Tea Tree.

More controversially, we have an explanation of how Tea Tree Oil can be used to prevent and to treat MRSA! This infection, caused by drug-resistant bacteria (methycillin resistant staphylococcus aureus) is an increasing problem in hospitals. This problem has been caused by the over-use of synthetic pharmaceuticals, and there is a realisation that the solution is going to be Essential Oils. For details click Tea Tree And MRSA.

There are many, many uses for Tea Tree Oil and the other Essential Oils, but familiarity with these has largely been confined to those who have trained formally in Aromatherapy. This page has been written as "work in progress" - we intend to add to this continuously, and we even invite readers to contribute their own ideas! Click Tea Tree - Other Uses.

No survey of the use of potentially hazardous Essential Oils such as Tea Tree Oil would be complete without specific reference to safety. We include a page with all you need to know about buying quality oil, storing it correctly, and handling it safely. Click Tea Tree Safety.
